Arun Jaitley, a well-known personality was the former finance minister and BJP stalwart who passed away in a couple of days ago. Arun Jaitley’s father was Maharaj Kishan Jaitley and mother was Ratan Prabha Jaitley.
His father was a lawyer profession and mother was a house maker. He was not only a politician but also a lawyer himself. He served Bhartiya Janata party from 2014-2019.
Former FM, Arun Jaitley did his schooling from St. Xavier School Delhi in the year 1957-69. He further pursued his honors degree in 1973 from Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi. He followed his father’s footsteps and completed his LLB degree from faculty of law, the University of Delhi in 1977.
Earlier Jaitley held the cabinet portfolios of finance, defence, corporate affairs, commerce and industry and law and Justice in the shade of Vajpayee government. During his college days, he joined politics and he was so popular among his mates that he became the President of ABVP School Union of Delhi university in 1974.
The consecutive year was a period of emergence 1975 to 1977, during this time even the most essential right known as the fundamental rights were suspended. At the time of this emergency, he played the role of a prominent leader of this movement. The movement was against corruption which took place in 1973 by Narain and Jayaprakash Narayan.
In very young age Arun Jaitley also played an active role in the civil rights movement. This activeness helped him to find PUCL bulletin along with Satish Jha and S.Kothari. Jaitley entered politics in the year 1974 by contesting and election at his college. Arun Jaitley, even got jailed 19 months in Tihar jail from raising voice against the imposition of emergency during the Indira Gandhi Government in 1975.
After getting released from jail he joins the Jan Sangh. The best time when Congress was there black days Jaitley was appointed as All India Secretary of ABVP. Gradually he was honoured as a president of the youth wing of BJP in 1980.
Arun Jaitley joined BJP in 1980, and a couple of years later he got married. They were blessed with a girl and later with the boy in 1983 and 1989. The great BJP leader Arun Jaitley was born on December
28 1952. Unlike their father, even the children choose to be lawyers.
From Lawyer to a Politician:
Arun Jaitley started practicing law in 1977. Soon he became a senior advocate and with time he became the additional solicitor general of India at the age of 37. During this phase, he handled an ample amount of cases especially the BOFORS case.
Finally Arun Jaitley was appointed as the additional solicitor general of India in 1980. Eleven years later, he became the member of the national executive of the BJP (Bhartiya Janata party). He not only served in the part of politics but also sports. He served as the vice president of BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India).
The Delhi’s Feroz shah Kotla stadium is to be renamed as Arun Jaitley stadium. He successfully introduced the 84th amendment of the Constitution of India in 2002. The same year Arun Jaitley was appointed as the general secretary of BJP. His need and importance in the party kept on increasing with every new dawn. The very next year the Indian delegation for the WTO conference in Cancun was led by the BJP person Arun Jaitley.
Gradually he also introduced the 91st amendment to the Constitution of India in 2004. He was re-elected from Gujarat for the Rajya Sabha in 2006. Three years later, he played a key role as a leader of the opposition in Rajya Sabha, he keenly participated in debates. The debates were on the woman’s Reservation Bill and also supported Anna Hazare in 2011. This was an anti-corruption movement for the Jan Lokpal Bill.
In 2012, he was again re-elected and recognition as the leader of the opposition. The most important
portfolio of defence in 2014 during PM Modi government was led by him. He was a constant member in
the party since the 1980s but never contested any direct election until 2014.
He stood from Amritsar for the Lok Sabha election but he lost. Later, he was nominated as a Rajya Sabha member from Gujarat. He was again nominated to the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh in March 2018. Jaitley was elected by newly elected prime minister Narendra Modi to be the finance Minister, the minister for corporate affairs, including the defence ministry in his cabinet session.
Under his branches as the minister of finance, the government demonetized rupees 500 and rupees 1000 currency paper notes to curb corruption. This step was taken for curbing black money, corruption, fake currency and terrorism. His bold step towards oversaw of the introduction of the Goods and Service Tax (GST) brought the country under one regime.
Jaitley suffered from a serious of health-related issues. He also went under several surgeries.
Doctors confirmed his suffering from diabetes for a couple of decades. Last year, he also went through
Kidney transplant surgery. Gradually his health deteriorated and Arun Jaitley cited his health and that
was the reason for his absence in the formation of the new government this year.
His Last Days
This month he got admitted to AIIMS were he was complained panting and was shifted to ventilation. A couple of days later his health went down and he breathes his last on 24th August. The country lost this famous personality at AIIMS hospital, Delhi at 12:07 p.m. His last rituals were done at Nigam Bodh Ghat on 25th of August.
